San Fernando Rey de Espana Mission was the 17th of the 21 missions to be founded in Alta California. It was consecrated on September 8, 1797 by Father Fermin Lasuen. The grave of fifties rocker Ritchie Valens is located here. He was raised in nearby Pacoima.
